Summer Learning Journey - Week 2 - Day 5 - Activity 1

Activity 1: Everyday Heroes [4 points]
Every day, the men and women in the Emergency Services provide help and support people in New Zealand and around the world. At times, they have to risk their lives in order to save others.
Common Emergency Services include the Fire Service, the Police Force and the Ambulance Service. Other related services include the Air AmbulanceSearch and RescueCoast GuardSurf Lifesaving, and the Civil Defence (amongst others).
In Australia, Fire Services are currently fighting more than 150 wildfires burning in New South Wales, a province on the east coast of the country. The wildfires started in November 2019 and are not expected to stop for many weeks. It is a very challenging time for the men and women serving in the Emergency Services in Australia.
1. They can move to a different country and then when the fire stops they can go back to Australia
2. If their house gets destroyed people can do charity so they can get their house back
3. The government should build a place for all those people to stay when there's a fire
4. The fire apartment should always stay in the areas where the fires start
5. We can donate money to the people who lose their family members of lose their house in the family

  1. Kia ora Christopher,

It is lovely meeting you! I am so excited that you are joining us for the Summer Learning Journey 2019-2020. Have you done this programme before?

This is my first year joining the Summer Learning Journey, and I am so excited that I get to read over the Manaiakalani blogs.

I’m really looking forward to summer, aren't you? In my spare time I like spending time at the beach and hanging out with my friends. I also enjoy going for walks and I absolutely love cooking and baking. What are you looking forward to doing this summer?

I really enjoyed reading your ideas to help out Australian bush-fires. I can tell you put a lot of thought into this! :)

There are so many aspects of this which makes it so difficult, mainly that the fire is so hard to control. I think donations would be so helpful, especially to families who have lost their homes.

Have you been to Australia before? Or do you have any family members who live there? I hope for their safety, if so!

    Nga mihi
    Erica
