Summer Learning Journey - Week 2 - Day 2 - Activity 2

Activity 2: School Strike for Climate [4 points]
You may have heard people talking about an issue called ‘Climate change’. Climate change refers to an increase in the temperature of our planet. Warmer temperatures can cause natural disasters (floods, storms, droughts, bushfires, hurricanes, etc), rising sea levels, and the extinction (disappearance) of plants and animals.
Many people in New Zealand (and overseas) are worried about climate change, including Greta Thunberg, a 16 year old girl from Sweden. She believes that climate change is not only real, but that it is a “crisis”. She is upset that adults, particularly governments and powerful people, are not taking climate change seriously. In 2018 she began protesting outside the Swedish government buildings every Friday instead of going to school. She inspired the School Strike for Climate protests and, in 2019, spoke to the United Nations about her concerns. Not everyone, however, is convinced that climate change is really happening.
1. They are sacrificing their education to save their future from climate change like adani coal mine
2. Politicians aren't doing anything to do with the climate change
3.  They are trying to stop new coal and oil and espicially the adani coal mine.
I am helping the enviroment by picking rubbish thats lying around. I also help my mum with the house work by picking up the rubbish inside my house so it doesn't fly outside and pollute the enviroment.

  1. Kia ora Christopher,

After visiting the website and having a look for myself about what ‘School Strike for Climate Australia’ are doing it is clear that you have really thought about this project! I really like your point number 1. Students are taking time out of their own education to strike. They felt like this major action was the only way to be heard.

Considering the bushfires that are happening in Australia at the moment, I hope that the Government can look after the environment a little bit more don’t you think?

    Keep up the amazing blogging!!

    Cheers,
    Georgia
