Activity 1: Making a Racket [4 points]
Billie Jean King, Venus Williams, and Serena Williams are three exceptional, female tennis players. They are not only outstanding athletes and some of the best tennis players in the world, but they have fought for women to be recognised as equals to men in the game of tennis. Billie Jean King famously beat a male tennis player, Bobby Riggs, in 1973, to prove to the public that women could compete at any level in tennis.
Billie Jean King was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1987, received the Presidential Medal of Freedom and was recently awarded the BBC Sports Personality of the Year - Lifetime Achievement Award.
1. Serena Williams is #1 out of the tennis women ranking and Venus Williams is #5
2. Serena Williams is the most paid female athlete but is #51 out of all paid athletes
3. Male athletes get paid more than female athletes

Well done for finding some interesting facts about Serena and Venus Williams. Did you know that Serena is in Auckland at the moment? She is competing in the ASB Classic tennis tournament in Auckland. She’s playing in the quarterfinals today! Serena is 63rd in the highest paid athletes for 2019 and there are four male tennis players above her. She is still the top paid female tennis player is. Is there anything you would still like to know?
