Summer Learning Journey Week 3 Day 1

Activity 1: Togs or Trackies? [4 points]

On your blog, tell us what time of year you think is best for tourists to come and visit. Be sure to share at least three things that tourists could do while they were here in NZ.
I think the best time for tourists to visit is when it is spring. The reason why is because that's when all the flowers are beautiful and they bloom. 1. The tourists can look at the flowers blooming and explore peoples amazing gardens. 2. The tourists can taste the delicious food that NZ has. 3. The tourists can visit the schools in NZ especially St Pius X.

Activity 2: You are my Sunshine [4 points]
1. We can put sunscreen on our bodies
2. We can wear hats
3. Wear fewer clothes
4. Stay out of the sun more
5. Run less because you will get hotter running in the sun.
Activity 3: Burning Up… [15 points]

  1. Good morning Christopher,

Well done on completing this set of activities for week 3. It is interesting to see how you've picked 'spring' as the best season for the tourists to visit NZ. I know that there are lots of beautiful parks, gardens and tree lined streets that the tourists can enjoy in different parts of our country.

Do you personally have a favourite nature spot that you would like to recommend to the tourists? I would tell them to visit the campgrounds in the Waitakere Ranges because there are lots of scenic walkways such as the Te Henga walkway. Have you been there before? It gets quite slippery on rainy days so watch out if you ever decide to make a visit!

You have mentioned some great points for protecting ourselves under the sun. It is super important to re-apply the sunscreen once every few hours so they don't start to wear off. If you do ever go out for runs under the hot sun, remember to stay hydrated! What is your favourite thing to do during summer? Do you enjoy swimming in beaches?

For the last activity, I can see that you've used a computer program to create your bar graph. Did you come up with these cities on your own? Well done on doing the research to find out the information. Just a friendly reminder that this activity has asked you to create a graph using the statistics below:

    Dallol: 41oC; Dasht-e Loot: 71oC; Tirat Zvi: 54oC; Kabili: 55oC; Bandar-e Mahshahr: 51oC.

There is no need to delete the graph you've already created but have another go at completing this activity! These are the cities from all around the world that experience high temperature rise.

Looking forward to hearing back from you,
    Susie :)

  2. Hi Christopher,
Great job completing this activity. I agree, spring really is a beautiful time of the year. About your advice for wearing less clothes, you mean wear shorts and short sleeves right? It could be pretty awkward if you turned up at the beach with nothing on...
